Creators of sound recordings must face this fact: a file isn't really worth anything. Costs nothing in materials, and takes very little time time to assemble. The same people who tell you not to "steal" music files would expect you to pay to right-click download a copyrighted jpg of a lamp you saw published to boston.com, I suppose? Stupidity.

 

Sure, I work hard on my records. But you did a little work to find my music, and since I have the ability to easily make sound file representations of my work accessible to you, here they are.

 

That said, an mp3 is not a CD is not a vinyl record is not a piano roll. And listening to music on the computer is a lot like eating out of the fridge--you'll never feel satisfied. I'd burn it, listen to it outside of a workspace/data storage unit. I guess an ipod is okay.

 

If you want to feel closer to the music and understand the context better, buy the album from my store (or ebay or somewhere else or Grimey's or In The Groove if you feel like it). I still think of records as records, with a Side A and a Side B. I'm still romantic about the packaging, which for the last two albums, I assembled by hand. I hope to press the next record on vinyl with a free cd. We'll see about that.
