rosey's dinner?

the most reliable way to keep abreast of happenings in the WORLD OF ROSENBERGTM

NEXT SHOW:

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 @ The Family Wash, Nashville, TN, 8:30pm

see SHOWS page for more details!

02.20.2010 4:23 pm CST

I haven't written in this biotech since my pre-9/11 laptop crashed. What's brewing: Some springtime sideman guitar-slinger dates with Shane Morgan; a fresh mix of my next album, 30 (looking like a Summer release); a brand new Joiners record, Glorious Glorious, produced by our pal with the Grammy, Eric McConnell. Rachel and Taylor Joiner are preparing a limited edition, designer cassette w/download, available at the March 23rd early show @ the 5 Spot. See http://joinerhouse.com for elaborations on this event.

Brett Rosenberg & The Joiners this Thu 1/14 @ The Basement, Nashville

We'll play fine music from our upcoming Eric McConnell-produced effort.
Plus: Funnyman/prophet/rocker Chris Crofton will destroy a toy piano as only he can.
To promote this huge event, The Joiners and I have filmed a very sudsy (and rather embarrassing) promo. It is beautifully shot by Rachel, and directed/conceived by Taylor.

Hope to see some of you Nashville residents at the show.
Enjoy,
Brett

The shows were great...thanks for coming, Boston area rockers. Mike Gent is a fantastic drummer--hire him. The Rudds are still a profound entertainment unit. Nashville is just fine, but it doesn't have a John Powhida. Thanks, Jenny Dee & Ed, for hooking me up with this. BR

11.2.09 11:11am CST

Tonight, I'm opening for an interesting guy named Bobby Long. He's featured on the Twilight soundtrack.

See the handsome brit in action.

It's an early 6:30 show @ 3rd & Lindsley. I'm doing a half hour opening set. Fair warning: This guy's kind of a big deal, so there's a $15 cover.

I got bored on Saturday, so I elected to record a cover of the first track off War's slammin' 1980 release, Outlaw. Stream my version of War's "Just Because."

10.12.09 2:45pm CST

Myself, Joe Bidwell (former John Cale keyboards guy) + Taylor + Rachel Joiner will be doing something at Brown's Diner in Nashville tonight. I'm not sure what to expect. Show up around 8 for an unpredictable evening of music.

You can listen to my music on last.fm. Beware: there is another Brett Rosenberg sharing this page.

10.10.09 1:35pm CST

Today's breakfast:

Egg sandwich on wheat with processed imitation cheese food

Late, unremarkable, eggy. I should invest in some bananas.

Oh, tonight, I'm playing rock-n-roll/blues guitar for Kevin Ball and The Busters @ Brown's Diner. Come on down if you couldn't afford those pricey Next Big Nashville passes--it's free.

10.5.09, 4:23pm CST

I rocked Mid Point Music Fest in Cincinnati last weekend. Due to some severe thunderstorms, my scheduled outdoor patio set at Arnold's was moved to the far corner of the inside bar, smack in front of the coat rack. I suppose that's better than playing BEHIND the coat rack, right?

Yaah. Here's a photo of a shoppe I passed in neighboring Covington, KY. Not sure what constitutes a "Walkin' Taco," or why running water is such a selling point for bodegas in this community:

WALKIN TACOS RUNNIN WATER

Still working away with Eric on this record. Should be done before the end of the year.

I'm travelling north to play the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, MA on November 5th. Also on the bill: Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents, plus some special surprise guests. It will be a time.

Nashville: Saturday (the 10th), I'm playing some blooze guitar for Kevin Ball & The Busters at Brown's Diner. Stop by and have one of America's best hamburgers.

Going through old tapes, I found this gem. By 1987 (at age 8), I'd beaten Bob Pollard to the British accent/lo-fi punch. And what was Daniel Johnston doing around this time? Anyway, enjoy my psychedelic, third grade self.

A new dollar record review is up nashvilleforfree.com.

This week: Utopia's Swing to the Right

8.30.09 @ 2:21pm CST

I had a musical weekend.

Friday night, I opened up for Steely Dan cover act 12 Against Nature at  3rd and Lindsley in Nashiville. The bar was already packed when I got there, as was the stage with Steely Dan's gear. They gave me a little wooden platform to the side, where the horn section would later stand. I loved it--a house full of older folks with record collections similar to mine, ready to laugh at my lame attempts at humor. I opened with this quickly scribbled parody of Doctor Wu:

Hello Guys

I'll be opening tonight

Standing on the other side of the stage

In a bar

With a baby blue guitar

Although most of you are roughly twice my age

Crappy cell phone picture of my section of the stage on Friday

I am a huge Steely Dan fan, so 12 Against Nature was a thrill to sing along to. They nailed it, note for fucking note, including one female background vocalist who sounded just like Michael McDonald. Thanks to Ron Brice @ 3+L for hooking me up with this one.

Yesterday, the Joiners laid down four songs of mine at Eric McConnell 's nameless studio in East Nashville.  Forced to describe it,  I'd say we sound like a 1982 Marshall Crenshaw fronting the Stones circa Let It Bleed. I'll post at least one rough mix here in a few days. Very fun, rock-n-roll stuff.

Here's the one crappy cell-phone photo I managed to squeeze off: bassist Taylor  Joiner and keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Joe Bidwell sharing an iPhone moment on McConnell's carpet.

Dress rehearsal for Taylor Joiner/Joe Bidwell "Bed-In" coming Summer 2010

8.24.09 @ 11:55am

I've been blogging about dollar records for http://nashvilleforfree.com . Here's my latest about Leon Russell's Stop All That Jazz

Friday night, see me play a 7pm set at 3rd and Lindsley. I'm opening for a Steely Dan cover band. You don't want to miss this.

8.04.09 @ 10:14am

The nice gals at http://nashvilleforfree.com have posted an encouraging little blog about myself and the show I'm playing tomorrow.

Check it out.

8.04.09 @ 2.34am

I made a new Rosenberg AM podcast. This week, I"m spinning records for an hour. Includes Steely Dan, Jorgen Ingman, Mel Tillis, and something called Rotunda.

Download here.

I'm playing a full set at The Basement in Nashville tomorrow (Wednesday) night. Just me and the guitar and some toys messing around for 45 minutes. Come and witness if you're in the area.

7.27.09

I read in an email yesterday that Bleu has a new album out. I was inspired to write and record this little ditty.

Brett Rosenberg - "LA Times"

Recorded last night and this afternoon on Audacity, the treatment is my tribute to Bob Welch. I don't believe the lyrics are about anything, but feel free to imagine otherwise. Thanks to Jeremy for the Casiotone. I may end up making an album if I stay unemployed this week.

7.26.09

Recorded this crappy demo on Audacity.

Downloadable .mp3 version

7.25.09

Did a couple of things:

1. Made a free downloads page full of Rosentunes. Includes mission statement (or rather jusification).

2. Put up a new Rosenberg AM:

A year ago, I never thought I'd actually put content on my site. Thank Taylor Joiner for inpiring my Web 1.0 ass.

Hey, that first podcast sounded so bad, I've put up episode two ROSENBERG AM a little early.

Rock to the sounds of Loudon Wainwright III, Leon Russell, and Pete Townshend.

ROSENBERG AM - BROADCASTING FINE MUSIC IN AWFUL QUALITY SINCE LAST NIGHT

Hey--I made a podcast with limited resources. It sounds so bad that I've dubbed it Rosenberg AM. For the next half hour, get down to the sounds of Bob Welch, The Lovin' Spoonful and a gone-gospel Alex Chilton.

Listen HERE SuperMono 6.0.

7.14.2009

I cannot say enough good things about Chris Pickering. He's an effortless guitarist and an unpredictable, catchy songwriter. Sings his ass off, too. See him live.

The Joiners play a long, last-minute set at Family Wash in East Nashville this Thursday (7/16). Joe and I will will each do a couple of tunes of our own. Stake out a table around 7:30-8:00 if you want to want to see our lips move. No cover.

7.9.2009

Mary Leary of The San Diego Entertainer Magazine writes this review of my 2008 release, Born Twice. I think it's quite nice.

Brett Rosenberg and The Joiners play the 5 Spot in Nashville, TN with Chris Pickering this Sunday, July 12. We go on at 10:30. Do come if you wish to be entertained.

They've opened another discount tobacco and beer store on Gallatin Pike. Its name?

I've been hard at work with Eric on some kind of record, tentatively titled Rosey. The Joiners have done wonderful things to a few songs, and I've played lots and lots of drums which I enjoyed the hell out of. I may have some listenable samples for download at this space in a few weeks. If you're my facebook friend, notice I already posted something not quite ready for public consumption. Come here often and keep an ear out.

Middle Tennesseans should visit the Mercy Lounge this Friday the 3rd--I'm doing a short opening solo set. Later, I'll play some Stratocaster guitar for The Viatones, who sound to this guy like The Who jamming with The Walkmen. Sweet kids, and a sweet going away party for the singer who moves to Louisianna in a few weeks to become a fireman. Fear not--the band will remain active. In fact, word has it, he's driving the fire engine straight to the gig, sirens blaring! Now there is a man who has truly intergrated all his passions. You'd have to be a real hoser to miss this, kids. 8:45 is showtime for me.

East Nashville: Brett R and The Joiners are at The 5 Spot on Sunday, July 12th with Chris Pickering, a fantastic fella with a Neil Finn sound. Of course, I'm probably getting it all wrong and just hearing that because he's Australian and  I don't know his references. But you should see him. You'll be entertained. Talented man.

5.29.2009

An archive of BR + The Joiners' appearance on WMBR FM is streamable here.

I'm playing a short set at The Family Wash in East Nashville this Tuesday, 6.2.09. I'll have the Joiners in tow. Get there a little after 8pm and grab a table.

On Saturday 6.6.09, I'm at The Creme Coffeehouse in Owensboro, KY. Early 6pm show, no cover.

Been recording this week with Eric McConnell. Everything sounds all dark and crispy. Eric's a trip to work with. I promise a rough mix or two in the next couple of weeks.

5.20.2009

Photo by Samatha Goddess--Brett Rosenberg and The Joiners in Gloucester, MA

We did it, and it was a blast. Highlights:

Watching Drop Dead Air drummer Richard Adkins play the drums of his life with zero rehearsal for an out-of-control Richard Lloyd.

Seeing the New England coast for the first time in two years.

Warding off dance partners while on stage at The Rhumbline in Gloucester.

The entire car yelling "NO EASY PASS" to a road-weary Taylor Joiner behind the wheel (and other such band mantras).

Being complimented for our collective "sensual throb" by one of the other bands in Boston.

*   *   *   *

The Joiners are the quietest band in the world on stage. We played a raucous three-hour set in Gloucester and my ears still weren't ringing at 1am.

Thanks to Lynn Hanson, Samantha Goddess, Jef from Donkey Skin, and Abby Cange for putting us up.

Check out this video playlist of Boston and Phildelphia performances.

Rachel Joiner has a photoset of the tour on flickr.

5.1.2009

With BR + the Joiners' Brief Springtime Jaunt 2009 fast approaching, I call on residents of the Northeastern United States to visit the SHOWS PAGE and make reservations accordingly. Post-tour, we'll be going into the studio to record a few ditties with Grammy-award winning engineer/producer Eric McConnell (Loretta Lynn, Todd Snyder). Keep checking back as I will post actual content to this site eventually. Promise.

Be good. Hope to see a few of you,

BR

2.28.2009

Okay, thanks for the feedback on the site, folks. My abilities are limited and I edit this thing from the Inglewood Library, but I will try to incorporate some of these fine ideas.

I'm working on some new tracks with Andy Willhite (Hands Down Eugene, Carter Administration). It's either a folk or country record. One is sort of part of the other, I guess.  Anyway, I should have some tracks up on brettrosenberg.com in the next couple of months. Keep checking back for updates on the record and the spring tour.

Thanks,

BR
